Birds in New Jersey 2014

24 October 2014 - New Bird

A native sparrow, the white-throated sparrow. Striking black-and-white stripes on its head; a yellow patch near the eye, and
a clear white area just below its beak.

Becoming a familiar sight: an upside-down white-breasted nuthatch and a male finch

Another familiar sight: as soon as a tufted titmouse appears, the nuthatch takes off. This is a new feeder, and it is taking the
titmouse a few tries to get the hang of the perches.

Female northern cardinal

All-black head cap: a male nuthatch. The females have some grey on the head cap. Now it's clear that the finch is a male house finch.
