Birds in New Jersey 2014

25 October 2014, continued

A rare visitor to the backyard: a robin

A blink

What has enticed the robin is a holly tree bursting with fresh, red holly berries

Two different female finches: house finch above, purple finch below

Female purple finch

Even in cooler weather, birds love a bath, to keep their feathers clean and optimally effective. Here are two house sparrows.

The robin checks out the water situation

Back in the tree

This rock dove has a distinctive white-and-blue-and-white tail

Every few seconds, there is something happening on a feeder. Two female purple finches....

A few seconds later, two house sparrows....

Then, a male house finch and a house sparrow
