Birds in New Jersey 2014

27 October 2014, continued

Something not seen since the spring: a grackle on a feeder

The last birds to visit the yard before it gets dark include the juncos.

And, often alongside each other, a white-throated sparrow and a dark-eyed junco

Now a regular late afternoon visitor: a male and a female downy woodpecker. Here's the female. They never eat at the same feeder;
they always take turns.

Getting more and more comfortable in the backyard, a bluejay is now a familiar late-afternoon visitor, as well

As dusk falls, the last visitors of the day are usually the male and female northern cardinals

.... and a few mourning doves
