Birds in Teaneck, New Jersey 2015
3 April 2015 - Winter becoming Spring
Many year-round visitors showed up today. Here's a mourning dove taking a break. Also seen a few times today, but
didn't stay still long enough for a photo: tufted titmouse.

Blue jays dove for the peanuts I'd put out. One sat on a tree and vocalized for some time, making unusual throat calls,
which are more pleasant than their regular fingernails-on-chalkboard / rusty gate "Heads up! Blue Jay in the yard!" calls.

This and the following photograph show how the bird's throat forms the throat calls.

Appearing in the winter, a few dark-eyed juncos are still showing up as the temperatures increase. This one even remembered
to eat from the feeder.

Two peanut thieves. No peanut is safe.

No birdwatching session can be considered complete without a house sparrow collective bath.

Considered by some to be very rare in New Jersey, a Clay-Colored Sparrow showed up.

It even ate from a feeder.

And here's a poignant moment: the disappearing native clay-colored sparrow, next to the invasive house sparrow.
