A baby chickadee leaves its nestbox

A little chickadee, "Uno", 17 or 18 days old, has fledged; that is, left the nest. It still needs mom and dad chickadee to feed it, until it learns how to fend for itself. It will depend on them for several weeks.

It left behind five siblings, who are, apparently, in no hurry to leave home.

Meanwhile, in other nest news, out of five house sparrow eggs, four babies have survived. Here they are, two days old.

Movies of "Uno", the first baby chickadee we've ever seen fledge in our yard.
