Birds in New Jersey 2014
Saturday, 19 July 2014. A few mystery birds today.
Adding food to the feeders and changing the water for the birds. The rock doves line up and wait.
The house sparrows form a line and wait.
A new bird? Not sure what this bird is. Turns out, according to a bird forum I posted to, that this is a juvenile starling.
Undisturbed by house sparrows, a black-capped chickadee visits the finch feeder inside the "halo".
Young, frisky squirrels (there are four of them in the backyard at one time) try again and again to get inside the feeders.
A juvenile brown-headed cowbird eats at the feeder.
My best guess: a juvenile brown-headed cowbird
Distinctive dark marks on the belly. What kind of bird is this? Juvenile starling.
It has a very long beak.
And, depending on how the light strikes its feathers, it has blue highlights...
... or brown. Juvenile starling.
It's back. The bane of our vegetable garden. The groundhog.
A grackle has blue highlights.
Female or juvenile house finch?
