Birds in New Jersey 2014
18 September 2014 - a new feeder
Newly arrived from Mr. Amazon, a new platform birdfeeder, intended for those birds that shy away from the vertical
birdfeeders: blue jays, cardinals, and robins.
We also invested in expensive dried mealworms... surely an attraction for those exotic birds depicted on the bag.
The new platform feeder is inaugurated.
A male house finch takes to it readily.
A black-capped chickadee gives it the once-over.
Meanwhile, on the ground, a juvenile cardinal (has a grey beak) takes a look.
The house finches are good at emptying the mesh feeder filled with black oil sunflower seeds.
Less shy than it used to be, a tufted titmouse also enjoys the seeds.
The mourning doves are endlessly entertaining. Here's one all puffed up.
Another fluffed-up mourning dove.
Will the platform feeder attract those large exotic birds I want it to? More photos >>
