Birds in New Jersey 2014

12 October 2014 - New birds!

Filling a bird bath: a rock dove. It seemed embarrassed to be found relaxing in the water, and took off when it saw the camera.

A new bird! It is probably a young male purple finch. Male, due to the blush of red starting to appear.

On the left, purple finch; on the right, male house finch.

Another new bird! At last: a dark-eyed junco.

14 October 2014

After an absence of many months, a downy woodpecker returned.

Squirrel being adorable

New feeders arrived. A second mesh feeder was put up.

A new squirrel-proof tube feeder was put up (foreground, left). Its closing mechanism can be adjusted, so it can be set to allow heavier birds
on the feeder, or it can be set to close when heavier birds land on the feeder.
