Birds in New Jersey 2014

16 October 2014 - a big surprise, and another new bird

Surprise! A young buck in the back yard.

The house finches have quickly become regulars on the newest tube feeder.

Clean, fresh water for drinking or bathing. A mourning dove takes a bath, stretching its feathers out and grooming itself.

It appeared to be the first time it had bathed in a year; it left the water amazingly filthy.

New bird! I've heard them for months, but today, at last, a northern mockingbird landed and took a holly berry.

The squirrel population seems to grow by the day. Today there were eight in the back yard (there are seven in this photo).
