Birds in New Jersey 2014

17 October 2014 - Squirrels being squirrels

Just when I thought I'd trained the squirrels to just eat on the ground, today they tried to get at three of the feeders.
This one simply leapt onto the feeder from the ground, bypassing the greasy, spicy pole entirely. Bad news for the
squirrel, though: these are squirrel-resistant feeders. The feeder slid shut with the weight of the squirrel.

No food could be reached, so it dropped to the ground after a minute of trying. It also tried the newest squirrel-resistant
tube feeder, which slid shut. Then, a squirrel raced up the greasy, spicy pole holding the two black oil sunflower feeders.
Soon after, it was observed cleaning off its paws.
