Hello, male purple finch! Compared to a male house finch, the eyes of a male purple finch are in a dark stripe.

 

Here we can compare the purple finch (above) to the more familiar house finch (below). The house finch's eyes are in a lighter-coloured stripe,
and its beak is not straight, but curved. Its belly stripes are grey instead of reddish. Also, the purple finch (above) supposedly has a more
pronounced "v" shaped tip to its tail feathers.

Applying Crisco and dried hot chilis to the poles is supposed to stop this from happening.
